The brand
Cyma Watch Ltd was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1862 placing it firmly among the historic names of the Jura watchmaking tradition. The brand became a supplier of precision timepieces to British and Allied forces during the First World War, a contract that demonstrated the reliability of their movements under demanding conditions. Through the mid-century decades Cyma produced respected mechanical calibres and maintained a solid reputation in the mid-to-upper Swiss market, before transitioning, like much of the industry, to quartz production in the late 1970s and 1980s. Their 1980s dress watch range, of which this 604 SP is a fine example, reflected the prevailing aesthetic of the era: ultra-slim cases, integrated bracelets, and restrained elegance clearly influenced by the grand maisons of Geneva. Though never a luxury marque in the Piaget or Patek sense, Cyma represented serious Swiss craftsmanship at an accessible price point.
