The brand
Universal Genève is one of Switzerland’s most historically significant watchmakers, founded in 1894 in Le Locle. The brand rose to prominence in the early to mid-20th century for its technical innovation and refined design, becoming especially renowned for its chronographs and elegant wristwatches. Among its most celebrated creations are the Compax chronographs and the Polerouter, the latter designed by the legendary Gérald Genta. Throughout this period, Universal Genève earned a reputation as a true manufacturer, producing high-quality movements and supplying watches to discerning clients worldwide.

By the late 20th century, including the circa 1990 period, Universal Genève had transitioned into the quartz era while retaining its focus on clean design and Swiss craftsmanship. Although quieter than its earlier peak, the brand remains highly regarded today by collectors, particularly for its rich heritage and iconic earlier models. Watches from this later period offer an accessible entry point into a storied name in horology, combining timeless aesthetics with the legacy of one of Switzerland’s great historic manufactures.
