The brand
Angelus was a distinguished Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1891, celebrated for its innovative chronographs, calendar watches and complicated movements. Introduced in 1958, the Datographe represented a more understated side of the manufacture, combining a slim and elegant 34mm case with automatic winding and a practical date display. Based on the refined Rapier model, the Datographe was powered by a 21-jewel automatic movement and embodied the clean, restrained aesthetic of late-1950s Swiss watchmaking. With its compact proportions, simple calendar function and elegant dress-watch character, the Datographe is an unusual and charming reminder that Angelus’ expertise extended well beyond the complicated chronographs for which the manufacture is best known.
